Book signing at Waterstones for Good Morning, Corfu: a Year on a Greek Island

A great time was had by all at Waterstones, Bridport, on Saturday when Maddie Grigg signed copies of her new book Good Morning, Corfu: A Year on a Greek Island.

Her story of a grown-up gap year has caught readers' imagination, especially those who've been hooked by the first series of The Durrells on ITV, which finished on Sunday night.

Awarding it five stars, the book's first reviewer on Amazon said: 'I was predisposed to like this book as it is set on my favourite island but I really did enjoy it.

'It was a very comfortable read, like sitting and chatting to an old friend. The style of the author's writing is open and unpretentious and I almost feel like she is that old friend.

'Her descriptions of her year on the island made me feel that I could have been there alongside her and her husband.

'It took me to a Greek village that I have never visited but now feel that I know well, along with the various welcoming villagers.'

Says Maddie: 'The signing was a great success, and I'm very grateful to Waterstones and also to Wessex Wines for doing tastings of Thiasos wine from the Peloponnese region of Greece.

'There was a real feel-good atmosphere in the shop and such lovely comments from customers.'

An extract from the book won Maddie a trip for two to Peru in a travel writing competition run by The Telegraph and Saga Magazine. Another extract brought her to the attention of the oldest women's weekly magazine in the world, The People's Friend, for which she is now a regular columnist.

Maddie is also planning to bring out at least two more books about her life in Corfu and, as an unrepresented author, she is keen to find the right publisher to work with her.

TV bosses have commissioned another series The Durrells, which is based on the autobiographical The Corfu Trilogy by Gerald Durrell. It will be filmed in Corfu in the summer and broadcast next April.

Good Morning, Corfu: A Year on a Greek Island

Maddie's just published a new book, Good Morning, Corfu: A Year on a Greek Island.

Just like the Durrells, Maddie and her husband abandoned rainy Dorset for a new adventure on the Greek island of Corfu. With beautiful countryside, kind neighbours and plenty of sunshine, what could have been better?

But Maddie was unprepared for the ache for home, which lives in us all.

Good Morning, Corfu: A Year on a Greek Island is a story of love, friendship and laughter and what happens when two people go on a whim and a prayer to a beautiful but foreign country.

It's available as an ebook on Kindle or as a paperback.
